Jobs on Facebook Our Year in Review

Jobs on Facebook Our Year in Review When Facebook decided to create a jobs marketplace about 18 months ago, they scored another home run. Recruiting through social media is one of the most important and transformative trends in the past decade for this industry. These platforms offer a faster process: Not only do they provide recruiters an opportunity to reach large numbers of potential candidates, but they also enable extraordinarily easy ways for candidates to share their experience.   Its somewhat surprising that Facebook took this long to develop their platform â€" but this step has definitely shaken the foundations of the contemporary job search realm. This year, the digital giant turned 15 years old and hit 2.3 billion users per month, providing a massive pool of job seekers and businesses with their new recruitment feature. As expected, it has had an enormous impact on recruiter’s results and will likely continue to change the recruiting landscape for years to come. Let’s take a look at Jobs on Facebook and look at what we can expect from it in the future. The beginnings With the permanent goal of connecting businesses and people, on February 2018, Facebook officially released its job website after realizing that one in four people in the US searched or found a job using their social media network. Moreover, one of the main reasons that made Facebook take a leap into the recruiting sphere was that the social media networks specializing in employment searches, like Linkedin, were not structured for blue-collar job seekers.   During the first phase, Facebook started with 13 modules that allowed job seekers to create applications, have direct contact with the employer through the Messenger application, and subscribe to alerts, among other features. Furthermore, businesses could create detailed job posts from their own company page, choose from different display options, schedule interviews, and boost their posts to reach the most suited candidates.   Where are they today? Today, Facebook’s job website continues to expand its modules, aiming to effectively connect a variety of job postings with job seekers. Beyond improving its infrastructure and algorithm, the platform is working around peoples needs to help them move forward in their careers, providing education options and mentorships when possible to improve job skills in candidates. Another important feature that Jobs on Facebook provides both jobseekers and talent acquisition professionals is a robust set of mobile tools. These tools are perfect for small companies that don’t have an ATS and allow the hiring manager to check on posts they have made, track applications, contact prospects, and even schedule interviews through the Messenger app. Facebook isn’t forgetting the mid and large size enterprises, however, that have different compliance requirements, ATSes, and mandatory workflows that include assessments and background check information. These companies can use third-party software to add their ATS’s jobs to Facebook and create an experience that joins the best of both worlds.   It’s only been a year and a half since Facebook started to implement their own recruitment solution. Raising the bar for big competitors like Indeed, the platform has cashed in on its unbeatable, gigantic database. What’s next? It looks like they will take some time to improve the algorithms to better match people with appropriate jobs, and we are likely to see the gradual implementation of growing technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. And we can’t wait to see their job advertising API, which should allow larger employers to boost their jobs programmatically. For now, we can only wait to see what incredible new ideas they will turn into realities. About the author:  Othamar Gama Filho, is the CEO at Talentify, a recruitment marketing automation platform.

Use Pictures to Build Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Use Pictures to Build Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career What Type of Pictures Should You Use? Pictures have the ability to tell our stories better than written word. A resume may list your volunteer work with a non-profit that creates urban gardens for low-income communities, but a picture of you, elbow-deep in earth, showing others how to plant vegetables is more likely to connect with future employers who value community-minded team members. With studies claiming 43% to 75% of employers check social media prior to hiring, every professional should invest in putting his/her best foot forward online, including his/her photos. What Type of Pictures Should You Use? Leverage pictures demonstrating your personal brand and core values. A mixture of headshots and candid photos should underscore your brand can extend your reach online. Headshot Headshots are typically the images you use as profile photos. If you’re currently using pictures on LinkedIn that include wicked shoulder pads or teased hair, it may be time for a picture refresh. For updated shots, hire a professional. In the absence of a professional photographer, identify people in your industry who have strong social media profile photos. Have a friend take a picture of you (no selfies, please) against a solid color background using some of the same poses as your industry rock stars. Your pictures should be sharp and well-lit. Hint- Avoid attempting to take “power pictures” with your hands crossed or with your hands by your face in an attempt to look pensive. Candid Shots Photos taken without your knowledge or while you naturally interact with others and your surroundings are considered candid shots. These are the photos where you demonstrate “what you do.” This can include work functionsâ€"if appropriateâ€"and/or community service. My own personal candid shots include items like my speaking on large stages, playing with orphans overseas, and laughing with audience members. Your candid shots should demonstrate your personality. Be careful to not over share though. No one needs to see a potential job candidate dancing on a table with a margarita. Where Should You Put Your Pictures? Use your headshots as profile photos on social networks. Candid shots make strong cover photos on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Use them on your timelines and social media posts as well. If appropriate, include a photo on your email signature. To supercharge your photographs’ effectiveness, name the picture files your name. This will increase the likelihood of Google pulling them when employers and potential clients google you.

Re-branding Phase 4 The 2008 Personal Brand Awards - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Re-branding Phase 4 The 2008 Personal Brand Awards - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career The 2007 Personal Brand Awards have come to a close. In light of the 10th Anniversary of Personal Branding, as well as the evolving online brand Ive created, the 2008 Personal Brand Awards officially debut. In 2007, personal brands such as Rohit Bhargava, Carl Chapman, Team Unbeige, Jason Alba, Darren Rowse and Brett Farmiloe were selected as winners. Rohit received a gold plaque, as well as his picture on Personal Branding Magazine issue 2 and a recent blog post. For 2008, the awards have an official homepage, there is a specific set of criteria and now 6 others judges, including Andy Beal, Kevin Dugan, David Jones, David Lorenzo, Chris Brown, and Mario Sundar. It will be much more difficult to win the awards, but the recognition will be worth each word you type in the application. This is the 4th post, in a series of re-branding for all my websites. As you will notice, the logo, design and concept remains true to the blog, magazine and tv show. The more and more blogs I read, comment on and judge, I feel that simplicity is golden. Im not keen on website clutter, which is one of the reasons why Google is so successful, as opposed to Yahoo! Here are my accomplishments thus far: Phase 3: Personal Branding Magazine Phase 2: Personal Branding TV Phase 1: New Logo Phase 5 will be the re-launch of DanSchawbel.com, which was the first 360 degree personal brand site in history, capturing professional and person elements, woven together with social media. For the 2008 Personal Brand Awards, to be the best, your brand must past the test!

How to Spot a Business Bully - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

How to Spot a Business Bully - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Four out of five of us will experience a coworker who tries to bully or backstab. In all walks of life there are people who suck time away in political maneuvering, grabbing resources, and creating distractions. These people can get your eyes watering: They secretly present your ideas as theirs. They take credit for your work to help them get ahead. They attempt character assassination. They provide you misleading information to their ownbenefit. They step over people, you included. They fabricate to try to save themselves. They endeavor to bring you down with disrespect. They create conflicts of interest. They try to trick you into badmouthing the company. They share private peer conversations. They go over your head and behind your back. They work to get your job away from you. They disassociate from you after you help them. They undermine you with micro-inequities,such as not  returning phone calls and leaving you out of meetings, and generally make you feel, as one CEO put it, like “a sharpened instrument is being eased into the fleshy portion of your body.” Do I have an answer to dealing with these people? Sorry, not really. I do have this recommendation: when reading this list make sure YOU dont do any of these to others!

Define your Expertise in 3 Simple Steps - CareerAlley

Define your Expertise in 3 Simple Steps - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Speaking with friends the other day about the start of my career brought back memories about job-hunting and interview techniques. There were lots of memories and stories being told, during this conversation/s they told me something that hadnt occurred to me at all: There are a lot of uniquely talented people out there who completely underestimate themselves! They have an expertise that would be useful to many, but they dont really acknowledge it or seriously consider sharing it with others. Could you be one of them? Are you hiding yourself and your expertise from the world? Youre not alone! Everyone out there has dreams, and many have dreams unfulfilled. Have you dared to consider pursuing yours? An increasing amount of people out there now are pursuing their dreams by starting their own businesses, changing careers or trying a new hobby or project on for size. Whether theyre in multi-level marketing, copywriting, finance, selling some sort of product or service, and so on. Congratulations to them all! There are a lot of uniquely talented people out there who completely underestimate themselves! They have the expertise that would be useful to many, but they don't really acknowledge it or seriously consider sharing it with others. Tweet This But sometimes, we only have a feeling, a hint of something bigger inside ourselves that should come out, but were not that clear on what it is. If you feel this might be you, lets explore further by answering a few questions. If you feel you know your area of expertise, these questions will help you clarify your purpose. What comes wildly easy to you thats difficult for others? Once upon a time, I was asked to work with a friends daughter to help her prepare for a class election speech. She was running for senior class president, and shed never done anything like that before. It was a big stretch for her. I could see that she was basically a self-assured young lady. She just needed to spend an hour or two practicing with an adult (who treated her like an adult) to add an extra edge to her confidence. It was easy for me to help her, she won her election, and her parents tell me how I completely changed her life. At the time, I privately felt like I had cheated because I had done so little work. Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay What do you do that feels like youve barely done any work, or lifted a finger yet makes a big impact on others? Can you remember the experiences youve had that are similar to the one I just described? Thats a big indicator of your unique expertise that you should be sharing with others. What do you care about? Your values, the things that you care about most deeply will determine how youll use your unique talents. What if you were to use your skill to create something that you hated or were indifferent toward? That wouldnt be very rewarding or inspiring to you, correct? Once youve identified your unique talent, consider the things you care about the most and how the two may match up to serve others. Image by ElisaRiva from Pixabay What drives you absolutely bonkers? Sometimes finding how you want to manifest and present your expertise to the world can hinge on this point. What drives you crazy about the industry or area you care about? Thats where you can pull away from the rest of the crowd and express yourself in a unique manner. Youll also have passion and fire about the subject. Whats the negative self-talk that comes up when you start sharing this expertise with others or positioning yourself as the expert? A common form of negative self-talk that comes up is feeling like an imposter: Who am I to tell people what they should do? What credibility do I have? Self-doubt and second-guessing can rear their ugly heads quite powerfully to beat you back down into quiet submission. Instead, take a deep breath and take a small step toward sharing your talents with the world. You have no idea of the positive impact you could have on others once you make yourself known to them. How this relates to you Even if you already know your area of expertise, these questions will only help you to clarify your purpose and vision for you and your goals. And once you do get that clarification, please start sharing it with the world! How To Choose Visual Resume Templates

How To Choose Visual Resume TemplatesVisual resume templates can help you in setting up your very own resume. These templates are available in free and paid versions. A free version is available for a certain period of time, after which it automatically expires. While there are a lot of available free visual resume templates on the internet, choosing the one that suits you the best requires some knowledge about the job requirements of the person who will use the template.Free templates tend to be less detailed than those available in paid versions. As they are not being maintained by a professional firm, the detail provided by them may not be correct. That is why it is always better to opt for a paid version to avoid any form of injustice. The best type of visual resume is the one that is offered by employers themselves, which are available online. The basic idea behind these types of resume templates is that they include the most basic information regarding the individual. This inclu des his name, contact details, current job, qualifications and experience. They also list in their template the fact that the person has two years of work experience and his name is attached to the company's job board. Most companies do not have the technical knowledge to put all this information in their profile without leaving some space, so they limit the information available to the name and address of the individual's name. This is the basic information that they provide when they apply for the job. Another advantage of using such templates is that the formatting of the paper is already done by the hiring company, so there is no need to worry about the quality of the material.Apart from the name and contact details, the kind of work or the educational background of the individual is also listed. This is to help the recruiters in choosing the person from a pool of applicants. If the person is an online student, then the recruiter can also have him or her list his or her school af filiations. In order to get the most relevant information for your resume, the best way is to write down all these relevant information in a separate sheet.Another type of template is offered by the online employer. This one is available on the web and provides the kind of information that is listed in a traditional format. The only difference is that the name, contact details and academic background are available in a more condensed form. This format also gives the applicant more time to choose the correct formatting for his or her resume. The most professional of all the templates is the one that is available online. These visual resume templates are easily accessible for free but it requires technical knowledge to set them up. On the other hand, an expert hired by the hiring company can make use of a form generator to format the information using the custom fonts and colors. The resulting document can be printed using the color and font combinations of the hiring company. The most important benefit of using visual resume templates is that the selection process can be done efficiently. Also, the person gets a chance to control the presentation of the resume as well as the kind of paper used. With the help of the recruitment agency, the person can get the most accurate results.
